FETS team

Every member of the FETS training team is highly experienced in their field. They now join an equally experienced team of trainers at Vertical Horizonz New Zealand (VHNZ),

Together, we guarantee that your training will be delivered by someone who knows their specialty inside out.

Below is some individual information about some FETS staff who will be joining VHNZ.  Our network of instructors is far reaching, and you can be assured that your training needs or specific projects will be managed professionally.

Trevor Moss
Founder of FETS. Contract Trainer for VHNZ
Trevor Moss

Trevor was involved in the emergency industry from 1977 to 2018, 19 of those years as a professional fire-fighter based in Wellington and the rest as a volunteer with the Paraparaumu Fire Brigade reaching the rank of Deputy Chief. Trevor has been involved with training since 1988, initially with the NZ Fire Service (now Fire and Emergency NZ) training fire-fighters and since 1998 as the Managing Director of FETS.

In 2018 Trevor stepped back from the operational side of FETS to spend more time with his family and follow his travel dreams, he now joins VHNZ in a contract trainer capacity.

Sandy McPake
Divisional Manager – Fire, Emergency and Maritime.

Sandy, previous chief executive officer for FETS joins VHNZ as the divisional manager for fire, emergency and maritime training. Having worked for FETS since 1990, Sandy brings enormous experience and talent in all facets of the business.

Charles Ollivier
Operations Manager

Charles initially trained in Mechanical Engineering before joining the NZ Fire Service (now Fire and Emergency NZ) as a firefighter. Charles' last role was in NZFS National Headquarters managing NZQA requirements for its status as a GTE.  Charles joined FETS initially to review assessment and moderation processes. The role progressed to assuring FETS training packages are robust and fit for purpose.

Kylie Harrison
Client Liaison

Kylie is one of our client liaisons. Kylie is in charge of booking our courses and liaising with all our wonderful clients and students. Please feel free to contact her for all of your booking needs or any questions about the courses we run.

Martin Sutherland
Course Instructor

Martin has been in the emergency response industry since 1994 as a Volunteer Fire Fighter based on the Kapiti Coast and is still a member of the Paraparaumu Fire Brigade.  Martin has been involved with training since 2004 firstly with the New Zealand Fire Service training Volunteer Fire Fighters and since 2006 as a Senior Instructor for FETS. Martin has gained a National Certificate in Adult Education Level 4 and 5.

Shane Hegan
Trainer

Shane was with the New Zealand Fire Service for 31 years, 20 of those were here in Wellington. He retired at Senior Station Officer level and spent 3 years sailing around Asia in a 44' sail boat. Shane joined the FETS team in September 2009.

Grant Houston
Trainer

Grant has been involved in the emergency services since 1980, 16 of those years as a police officer in Central London before emigrating to NZ and joining the NZ Police in 1998. He served in Taumarunui and the Waikato as a Sergeant before retiring in 2014. He has been involved with training since 2003, with the NZ Police.

Megan McIlroy
Course Administrator

Megan is responsible for ensuring that the instructors have the correct paper work for each course and then follows up at the end of the course by completing the end of course reports, certificates and loading any NZQA credits on to the frame work.

Areene Dantanarayana
Accounts Administrator

Areene is responsible for accounts receivable and payable and does a fantastic job of paying the wages.
